How to Leave the Kitchen Sink Behind and Make Your Own Radiant Health

Health and wellness can be tricky areas to navigate. Especially if you live in a big city – or for that matter, if you have an internet connection – you have more than enough opportunity to diagnose every “problem” and throw the entire kitchen sink at it.

This kitchen sink approach gives us more than enough opportunity to get lead along for “random walks.” In math, this means no directional movement happens, toward much of anything. In health and in life, it means about the same thing.

We’re walking in circles. Something good might happen occasionally and by accident, but we know we can do better than that.

Our friend and MindBodyGreen founder Jason Wachob turned 39 today, and offered up his 39 life lessons learned. One of them I’ll copy here.

“7. Only take advice from experts (and being an expert probably means you put in 10,000 hours of work).

I see this all the time in the self-help and wellness world: people doling out advice who have no expertise or life experience. Why is Charlie Knoles one of the best meditation teachers in the world? Because he’s been meditating since he was four years old! Sometimes there’s no substitute for hard work and experience. Only take advice from experts—and being an expert probably means having put in at least 10,000 hours of hard work according to Malcolm Gladwell.”

He’s right about Charlie, and it’s a start in solving our kitchen sink problem.

The next part involves you, believing in you.

If you think everyone else is the expert – everyone else knows better – then you’ll always think you have to go through someone else to get where you want to go.

If you believe you’re the best originator of your own inspiring life – that you can go direct to you – the primary source! – and create your own best health and life out of you, then you’re on to something good. Experts and friends become people who lift each other up, to create their own health, their own inspiration, their own way.

Everywhere you’ll ever go will always be from exactly where you are. Get into you. You’re it. And you’re great.

Thanks Jason, Strala people all over the world, and everyone around us who is each day proving and sharing these life lessons. Tara and I are lucky to be around you all.

🙂 Mike
