Turn Your Passion into Time Spent

Hope you are having a great week so far. I’ve been lucky recently, to spend several weeks in New York, with the Strala gang, practicing, leading, and hanging out with everyone. Strala is our laboratory for moving with ease, getting to hang out with people over time, and connecting and expanding from the inside out.

Strala is my favorite place to be. I get told a lot by visitors from other cities and countries that it’s so rare that a yoga teacher who has been teaching for so long still leads classes, and they are surprised to see me on the schedule. That’s so wacky to me. Practicing, leading, and being with people is what I do, and Strala is my home for that. Where should I be? Hanging out at home, watching TV? Well, I do some of that too, but I’m on the schedule leading and hanging around to practice in a class every day I’m in NYC, because nothing makes me happier. I can’t imagine if I spent time in another place for long, not practicing and leading classes. I need the laboratory, the studio, the day-to-day interaction and connection. Not just to fuel my outside of the studio work, but because it’s where my heart is.

Having this time at home has given me the space to reflect on how we spend our time and what we choose to pursue.

Having this time made me realize that time and how we spend it is the most valuable currency we will ever have.

A few points came to mind that I’d like to share if you’re interested in reflecting on spending time and living your passion.

Turn Your Passion into Your Time

1. Streamline. Take a good look at how you spend the hours in your day. Whether structured or open schedule, look at what you are doing all day. What is happening and how does it make you feel? Are there easy changes you can do to make how you spend your time efficient so you aren’t wasting time?

2. Energize. Refuel your creativity with the people and activities that move you. It’s easy to fill our schedules with appointments to be busy, but what’s the point? Take a good look at what you schedule and who you schedule your time with. Are you hanging out with that friend out of habit, or because they inspire you? Is there something that will inspire you that you have been putting off, like seeing an exhibit, taking a long walk by yourself, or hanging out with someone who really inspires you.

3. Make space. I know I talk about making space a lot, but there really is something to it. If you fill up your day with stuff, you’ll fill up your mind with stuff and your body probably with tension. Allow room for inspiration and creativity. It’s ok to stay at home a few nights a week and read a book. It’s ok to take an afternoon off if you are able. You will gain more inspiration and productivity from your time off than your time on.

Let me know how you turn your passion into inspiration.
