Do No Harm

Hi Friends!

Yoga injuries shouldn’t exist.

They happen when you force, push, and slam your body into a pose, and stop feeling into you.

Yoga is a practice that should heal the body and mind, not hurt it.

Too often, yoga injuries become normal, and a badge of honor on the road to a “deeper practice.” What a bummer! Of course, it doesn’t need to be this way.

As long as yoga is about getting into a pose, instead of feeling your way into yourself, injuries will happen. Sensible people who haven’t begun yoga – and see all of the yoga people injured – will stay away from yoga. How is that “yoga for everyone?” It’s just yoga for people who want to pose.

It hurts my heart to see teachers forcing contortion-like poses on people, with the ingrained idea that there is an advanced pose, and a basic one, and the goal of course is get to the advanced pose. Ouch! This kind of leading perpetuates a broken system, broken bodies, and frazzled minds.

The first rule of medicine is “Do no harm.” Somehow this doesn’t exist in the modern yoga world. Let’s change that. Let’s help each other, and the teachers of yoga, to find a little more ease and feeling in the practice, no matter what style they lead.

With Strala this is our main focus – any age, any size, any weight, any history – everyone safe. When you lead ease – instead of leading pose goals – everyone not only stays safe, but leaves feeling capable, empowered, and experiencing joy.

Pose goals in yoga lead to frustration, injury, and a roller-coaster ride of accomplishment and defeat.

Feeling goals lead to a strong, open, capable body, mind, and life.

Learning and growing in a practice of ease and harmony has a magical way of bringing out the real you. I love getting to know people during @stralayoga training. It's a special moment of time we have together, whether in person or online, to connect and share ourselves through the form of yoga, mindset of tai chi, and good connection practices of shiatsu. We do this "something" together to have something to do, but what we are really doing is bringing ourselves into balance, becoming more sensitized so we can follow what pulls our attention.@lisanschnurr is a great example of what happens when you connect with yourself. Lisa shifted from leading yoga as a focus to helping women #ditchtehdiet to get healthy and lean, a passion of hers and area of interest and learning that has been with her all along.Do your practice. Remember you are the main ingredient. Relax, soften and move like you love yourself. Your intuition will feel safe to come out and play and you'll be in for the ride of your life. And for anyone who needs to hear this 👇♥️ The goal of participating in yoga teacher training doesn’t need to be to lead yoga ♥️I'm excited to interview Lisa today LIVE 3pm EST about her journey for #GUIDETalk Join in the conversation. #stralayoga
You deserve to feel better. Take good care of you and those around you. When it’s hard, remember you deserve to feel better. #stralayoga

Sometimes life is a puzzle. You have to stop and think.Fresh 💌 is there for you.I’m sitting at my parents kitchen table writing this to you. Daisy and Grandma are on the floor putting together a puzzle. Grandma pauses and says, "Sometimes life is a puzzle. You have to stop and think." And here we think we are so different from our parents. Slow down, soften, breathe, feel, and respond. Works for yoga and all of life’s puzzles. As we rush into April and all the momentum dragged along with this past year of epic emotion, ready or not we are headed toward a big release. Aligning our internal pacing with the rhythm of nature and our unhurried breath, instead of allowing our racing minds to take the lead, is necessary to find ease and balance. This Month’s Theme is Refresh & Renew YouWith each inhale I am refreshed. With each exhale I am renewed. When you are at ease, each inhale refreshes you. When you are calm, each exhale renews you. Nature shows us the signs of rebirth with each new bud and bloom. When we take good care of ourselves we are reborn too. When we take good care of ourselves in community, we co-create a vibrant ecosystem, like a magical forrest, uninterrupted to create wild, interconnected, vivid life.#stralayoga
