Get More Done with a LOT Less Effort

Hi Friends,

It’s Monday Morning and I’m sure you have a TON to get done. Before panic mode sets in, I want to help ease your work load and help you get more done with a lot less effort. And yes, it’s totally realistic, possible, and going to be an easy ride.

I take a perspective of Strala studio in NYC being a laboratory for research on health, happiness and growth. It’s amazing to see people’s live change, evolve and grow over time and what role moving with ease plays. Often it’s immediate response, “OMG I feel crazy amazing” right after a class, or it’s the first month, “Wow I have so much energy, my back feels great, I’m handling my work load easier, and my boyfriend / girlfriend is happy with me because I’m happy! Or it’s more long term, “My entire life has transformed because I’ve found an easier way to be in my life that helps me be more fully myself.”

The secret isn’t the yoga. It’s how the people are moving, breathing, feeling, and responding to what they feel. The goal with Strala is to feel great. We don’t care at all about accomplishing any yoga poses. Touching your foot behind your head might be fun, but causes no health benefits. If you believe a sense of accomplishment and pride is created by accomplishing a yoga pose, that sense of pride goes away when you can’t achieve another. Posing becomes an addiction that leads to an unsettled mind, and a frazzled life. Posing creates tension. Moving and responding to how you feel creates ease and capability both on the mat and off. You can accomplish much more when you are easy then when you are tense. You can think clearly when you are relaxed and balanced. You can get more done in your life off the mat when you are focused, balanced, and inspired. Moving with ease creates a path for you to get more done with a lot less effort, and be able to enjoy the process.

I’ve seen enough awesome people come through the doors of Strala, and through other avenues of my life to be able to spot tension that leads to burn out. It’s like meeting a new person who reminds you so much of someone you already know. I call it the sparkle and fade. These folks are usually super ambitious and no matter how much you guide them toward ease, they just don’t believe that you can get things done an easy way. They fill their schedules, run through walls, try to burn their point into you, pose and force their bodies, minds and lives into positions, and eventually crash. I can see this type coming a mile away because I used to be one. I caught myself before I crashed too hard, and rallied myself back to ease and paying attention to how I feel, and it’s served me so well so far.

In the spirit of Monday morning and getting it all done, I encourage you to soften yourself today. Perform your tasks with a sense of ease. Approach your conversations to listen first, carrying your objective in your back pocket. Allow conflict to exist without getting emotionally consumed. Allow yourself space to breathe. Take a big deep inhale. Exhale a little longer. Repat during the day.

Stress and tension exist. It’s a part of life. Practicing ease through yoga and the rest of your life isn’t to erase or block out tension, it’s to work with it, let it roll through you, not get stuck on you, so you can get more done with a lot less effort.
