Your body works miracles for you all the time. Occasionally it needs your help.
Mostly this help comes when we slow down, tune in, and support our bodies to do what they do best. It’s not so much fixing or correcting or manipulating that we need – from ourselves or anyone else. Sometimes the help we need is simply in opening the conversation with our bodies, and forming a positive connection that allows us to respond in some simple ways.
Remember that much more than what moves or poses you do to target this or that problem area, it’s using your breath and movement to release stress and support your body more holistically that will have the greatest impact here. Stress probably remains the most important factor to keep an eye on, along with nutrition and your everyday movement and healing practices. How to begin?
Two or three times each day, give yourself some space
to slow down, and get comfortable.
From here, use your breath to tune in.
Don’t worry much about poses or positions.
Just find a way to move that responds to what you find
as you breathe around your body.
When you locate a good spot, stay and breathe there as long as you want – keeping your body and breath connected, so your body moves gently with your breath.
When you want to keep moving, keep moving – but be really picky about your movement. Keep looking for the easiest possible way to do everything you do.
This opens the door into something called responsive movement, which progresses from natural movement, and approaches health and healing directly. It’s our focus in the advanced course, and is important for stress, which is important for your chemistry and healing. Of course, it takes practice.
Most of us are used to believing
that the hardest way is the best way.
We’ve probably practiced this our whole lives, and even put it into our health and healing practices like yoga. So it takes time and a new kind of practice, to start being a little nicer to ourselves.
Once we discover
that the best way to approach every challenge
is the easiest way, it’s hard to go back.
It’s wonderful to drop the stress and struggle, and bring ease into our lives. It feels good. And it accomplishes much, much more.
